Die beiden Künstler lernten sich 1997 bei einem Graffiti-Event in Bregenz kennen. Seit 2003 arbeiten sie als Künstlerduo Bildstein | Glatz zusammen.
Bekannt wurde das Duo Bildstein | Glatz mit Rampen, Fahrbahnen und Umlenkbauten aus Holz. Diese an Sportarchitekturen angelehnten Objekte changieren zwischen Sportmöbel und Skulptur, zwischen Low- und High Culture. Mal konnten die Besucher selbst Radrennen fahren, mal luden die Künstler den Stuntman Brutus aus Utah ein, mit einem 620 km/h schnellen "Raketenauto“ zum Weltrekord im Raketenauto Dreisprung. Die Objekte von Bildstein | Glatz funktionieren als Bühnen für moderne Extremsport-Helden, womit die Kunst ihrer Bestimmung als Spektakel zugeführt zu werden scheint.
The work of Bildstein | Glatz compels the viewer to reflect his/her trained visual perception. Watching, observing and contemplating should not lead to generally accepted insights, but rather question conventions, mechanisms of perception and the appearance of reality. Disassociation, valorization of the nondescript and minimal interventions in the very nature and meaning of things shifts reality towards triviality.
They document their paradoxical experiments, architectural interventions and trivial shifts in either photographs or videos, or show them as installations on site, objects or sculptures.
They first met in 1997 at a graffiti event in the Youth Center Between in Bregenz. In 2003 Bildstein | Glatz started collaborating. After they finished their studies at the art universities in Zürich (ZHdK) and Vienna (Akademie and Angewandte) their work became increasingly conceptual and installative.
